Education: Daniele Cerra received the B.Sc. and the M.Sc. degree in computer engineering from Roma Tre University, Italy, in 2003 and 2005 respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in image and signal processing (with high honours) from Télécom Paristech University, Paris, France, in 2010. He received in 2006 an additional M.Sc. Degree in Geographic Information Systems from University of Salamanca, Spain.

Professional background: Since 2007 he has been with the Department of Photogrammetry and Image Analysis at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. He worked at the European Union Satellite Center (EUSC, Torrejón de Ardóz, Spain) from 2006 to 2007. He has been teaching digital image processing and hyperspectral remote sensing since 2012 as a visiting lecturer in the universities of Osnabrück (Germany), Alcalá (Spain), Calabria (Italy), and Tehran (Iran). He regularly serves as a lecturer in international courses on the topic “Space-Borne Remote Sensing” at the Carl-Cranz-Gesellschaft (CCG) since 2012, and since 2014 as a trainer at the European Space Agency (ESA), Noordwijk (Netherlands). From April to September 2018 he has been a visiting professor at the University of Osnabrück (Germany).

Research: His research interests include remotely sensed hyperspectral imaging, data compression, and algorithmic information theory.

Honors

Daniele Cerra received the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize in the IEEE GRSS Data Fusion Contests in 2019, 2018, and 2013 respectively. He won the DLR Science Slam contest in 2013, authored or co-authored more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals or international conferences, and contributed to two books.
